What Did Andover Students Do Over the Long Weekend

Mayumi Kawano ’25 (she/her):

“I went back home to New York, [and] I was mainly with my family… I hung out with Mia Burton [’25] on Sunday, and since it was Easter, we got food at this Korean noodle place. There was also a festival happening around 34th Street, so there were a lot of food trucks [and] vintage pop-up stores… I loved being able to walk outside without a jacket on. I feel like New York has a certain smell when it’s summertime, and it’s a very nostalgic scent. It reminds me that there’s a world outside of Andover. We get very consumed by life here, so it’s nice to step outside.”

Maggie Fulop ’26 (she/her):

“On Friday, it was my birthday, but it was also the 250th anniversary of the first battle of the American Revolution in Lexington, and I’m from Lexington. I went home and pulled an all-nighter with some friends and went at five in the morning to go watch it… The night before, there was also a reenactment of Paul Revere’s ride through Lexington, and there was a big crowd, except we weren’t able to hear him say ‘the regulars are out’ or ‘the British are coming.’ He just rode by on a horse… I really hope they do this double Head of School Day every year in the future.”

Lucien-Sinclair Herndon ’28 (he/him):

I remember being very excited. Having an extra day to be at home [in Minnesota] was very nice… The first day I had a sleepover with my best friend, and then I went to a SZA and Kendrick Lamar concert… For Easter, we had an Easter egg hunt. It wasn’t like a regular Easter egg hunt, but my mom usually puts eggs in a bag, and then puts in a paper and she writes how much money’s on it, and then you put your hand in the bag and try to guess which one has the most and I ended up winning 69 dollars… My oldest sister surprised us and she came home as well so our whole family was back home together, which was also very nice for Easter.”

Isabel Park ’28 (she/her)

“I’m from Long Island, New York, so my mom drove me home… Saturday was fun because I went to Planting Fields Arboretum State Historic Park and it was so beautiful. I love exploring Long Island because this was actually my first time going [to the park] for some reason because we usually go to the city’s garden… Sunday was Easter [and] I’m Christian, specifically Protestant, so I went to church. I sat at a service, but they spoke Korean the whole time and I didn’t really understand, but I was there in spirit. We were connected in spirit, so I wasn’t upset at that.”
