Girls’ Tennis Overcomes Rain and Rallies to Sweep Austin Prep

Andover: 9 – Austin Prep: 0

Girls’ Tennis faced early adversity in a rain-soaked matchup against Nobles and Greenough (Nobles), but rebounded with a commanding sweep over Austin Preparatory School (Austin Prep) later in the week.

Rain forced the team’s match against Nobles indoors, shifting play to fast, hard courts that initially disrupted the team’s rhythm. Nobles took advantage, securing a 2-1 lead after doubles. However, Andover regrouped in singles. Needing two wins from the first four singles matches, Kendra Tomala ’26 (first singles) and Nitya Madduri ’28 (third singles) delivered crucial victories to tie the match at 3-3. Evelyn Kung ’26 (fifth singles) then dominated her opponent 6-0, 6-3, bringing the score to 4-4. Then the match all came down to Lara Madan ’27 (sixth singles), who clinched the win with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 triumph, sealing a 5-4 win over Nobles for the team.

Later in the week, under better weather conditions, the team hosted Austin Prep and delivered its first sweep of the season. Setting the tone with dominant doubles play, the team carried that momentum into singles, winning all matches. At 1st singles, Tomala faced a strong baseline hitter but maintained composure and focus. Her consistent rallies and smart shot placement secured a well-earned victory, capping off a perfect 9-0 match for the team.
