Girl’s Hockey (9-1-1) faced off against St. Paul’s on Saturday and Lawrence Academy (Lawrence) on Wednesday. The team demonstrated strong performances in both games, adding two wins to its win streak. Girl’s Hockey is now on a nine-game winning streak and on track for an impressive season.
Chanel Martin ’27 highlighted Maggie Averill ’27 and Molly Boyle ’25’s impressive play during Saturday’s game. Martin believed that Averill acted as a key player in the offensive push, whereas Boyle defended the team’s momentum, and both focused on maintaining possession of the puck.
“[Maggie Averill] had two goals, both from the blue line. Molly Boyle was very good at stickhandling through many players and was able to create a lot of space doing so,” said Martin.
Additionally, Maddie Greenwood ’26 praised the performance of Peyton Kennedy ’25, Maggie Averill ’27, Caroline Averill ’26, and Keira Bruen ’27, all of whom made important contributions to the team’s win during Wednesday’s matchup against Lawrence.
“I feel like everybody’s playing so well together. Our team is bonding. You can just see the chemistry on the ice, game after game. It’s so much better. Peyton’s goal was a snipe and it really lifted everybody’s spirits and showed us how we can play Hockey. Also, the Averill sisters, Caroline made an awesome pass to Maggie Averill, and she scored. That was one of the most beautiful goals I’ve ever seen. Keira Bruen also played really well on the wing. She was able to break out the puck from the defensive zone, and she was really disruptive on the forecheck. Those are the small details that make us so successful,” said Greenwood.
Wednesday’s game opened frequent opportunities for scoring, but there were also areas of improvement, according to Martin. The team’s plays were occasionally disorganized and allowed Lawrence to take advantage of their weaknesses.
“We got a lot of scoring opportunities. Weaknesses, we were a bit cluttered. We were sometimes forcing passes and sometimes they would go to the other team. We had a lot of shots on the goal. Also, sometimes we would give up breakaways for the other team, which is not good,” said Martin.
Kimee Duplessis ’27 highlighted goalie Lauren Kennedy ’28 as a key player in defending against Lawrence’s offensive efforts. She was able to stay composed under pressure and make critical saves.
“Our goalie Lauren did a great job today, definitely helping us with the win. She saved a lot of good shots and good opportunities that the other team had, she did really, really well,” Duplessis said.
In the game against Lawrence, the team rallied in the final moments and scored a crucial goal. Martin noted that the team regained confidence and momentum after a tough stretch.
Martin said, “The last goal, we scored on the power play. It was a good comeback because they had previously scored the last three goals. And we came back and scored one to make it 5-3.”
In the upcoming weeks, Greenwood hopes the team will continue building momentum and refining their skills to prepare for tougher competition. The team is pushing each other to stay focused and sharp as harder games near.
“Our schedule coming up gets harder and harder as the season heads towards playoffs. Everybody works as hard as they can, day in and day out. There is always a group of us getting on the ice early to get in some extra practice and focus on individual skills, so we can really be at our best,” said Greenwood.
Girl’s Hockey will play against Cushing next Wednesday at home.
