Who’s to Stop Girls Lacrosse from Winning?

Friday 4/26 – Andover: 8, Dexter Southfield: 7
Saturday 4/27 – Andover: 24, Brewster 1
Wednesday 5/1 – Andover: 21, Dana Hall: 10

This past week, the Girls Lacrosse team achieved consecutive victories over Dexter Southfield, Brewster, and Dana Hall. Their success stemmed from maintaining a positive energy both on and off the field and diligently practicing their plays. This allowed the team to leverage their exceptional talent and capitalize on multiple opportunities, leading to wins in all three games.

After its loss to Dexter Southfield last year, Lucy Parker ’26 discussed how the team dedicated themselves to intensive practice throughout the week, concentrating on improving communication and speed. Parker also shared the team’s mindset, emphasizing their determination to avoid a repeat of last year’s outcome.

“We just wanted to win. We lost to Dexter last year and it was a really close game. So we didn’t want to have that kind of experience this year. I think we were all confident going into it. We were confident in our abilities to beat them. So it was definitely good,” said Parker.

Parker highlighted the team’s resilience and discipline during the game, particularly when Andover received three cards in the first quarter. She also stressed the significance of maintaining composure, noting that receiving four cards in a game would result in the team losing a player on the field for the remainder of the game.

Parker said, “ We had to play really smart, and composed, and not fouling and making stupid fouls on defense or offense. So just responding to that situation and just fixing our playing style to make sure we did not go down a player was definitely crucial.”

Parker commended Molly Boyle ’24 for executing several challenging but pivotal saves during the game. With the score fluctuating dramatically, whether Andover was up by a point or the game was tied, Parker pointed out how Boyle’s numerous timely saves were vital to the team’s success, particularly in moments when time was running out.

“They ran kind of this one play a lot of times where they would pull a defender kind of inside in this girl would come flying off the elbow… That’s just a hard shot to save when she’s coming with speed and being able to beat her defender. It’s Molly just being there and saving it is huge because, in lacrosse, it’s hard to save those shots anyway,” said Parker.

Dylan Siegel ’26 reflected on the Brewster game on Saturday, noting that it followed closely after Friday’s intense matchup against Dexter. Siegel discussed how the close game against Dexter Southfield served as excellent preparation for Andover’s subsequent game against Brewster, ultimately contributing to a significant victory.

Siegel said, “ I think we were a little tired, but we definitely brought our A game on Saturday… The team’s mentality was great. We always have a ton of energy. We always play a lot of really hype music in the locker room before. And we were all just really excited to come out and play together. It was a really pretty day. It was really sunny and nice outside. So, it was just a lot of fun, great team energy.”

Siegel praised her teammates, Autumn Christian ’27, Carly Hopkins ’24, and Lola Aguirre ’26, for their impressive behind-the-back goals. She highlighted how, throughout the game, the entire team continually supported each other, driven by their motto “Leaving Better,” which fueled their enthusiasm and team spirit.

Siegel continued, “We just focus on building each other up and some people scored for the first time, or, yeah, just really cheering for everybody. We had some really good celebrations on the sideline. Always encouraging each other and building each other up instead of telling people what they did wrong. But just focusing on the now and not focusing on what happened in the past or if somebody made a bad play, “

Maren Boyle ’26 discussed last Wednesday’s game against Dana Hall. Following their recent victories over Dexter Southfield and Brewster, Boyle mentioned that the team was eager to face a new opponent and showcase the skills they had honed in the previous week’s training.

“We’ve been working really hard at practice, and getting better off the last game… We have been working on our transition from defense to attack, and to the midfield and just doing drills like that at practice,” said Boyle.

Girls Lacrosse will play against Austin Prep at home on Saturday.
