Weekend Recap 1/12

**Wrestling** _by Ryan Simard_
Andover Wrestling emerged with four consecutive victories this weekend, decisively ending Northfield Mount Hermon’s (NMH) five-year reign on Friday and toppling Deerfield, Hyde School Maine and Hyde School Connecticut on Saturday. The quad meet on Saturday started off on a high note when Co-Captain Christian Vallis ’14 pinned his opponent in under 40 seconds, propelling Andover to a 62-13 win over Deerfield. Andover hopes to continue its dominance at Tabor on Wednesday.

**Nordic** _by Noah Belser_
Co-Captain Elana King-Nakaoka coasted to a seventh place finish out of 45 girls in Andover Nordic’s first race of the season at Proctor last Wednesday. For the boys’ race, Co-Captain Sean Burkitt ’14 led the pack with a 14:08 finish, placing eighth in a field of 72. Andover Nordic placed third out of seven teams for girls and fourth out of ten teams for boys overall and looks to continue its success at Holderness on Wednesday.

**Boys Swimming** _by Victoria Bergeron_
Andover Boys Swimming made a splash at Loomis on Saturday, breaking three New England records and blowing Loomis away 115-70. In the first race of the meet, Co-Captain Tim Wynter ’14, Aaron Teo ’15, Co-Captain Joe Faller ’14 and Michael Camarda ’14 crushed both the pool and New England records by a full 0.5 seconds in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:47.30. Andover also broke the New England records in the 200 and 400 Freestyle Relay, and the team hopes to continue its success against NMH next Saturday.

**Girls Swimming** _by Staff Report_
Shattering five pool records, Andover Girls Swimming drowned Loomis 122-64 in its first win of the season. Co-Captain Amy Zhao ’14 returned to dominate the 50 Free with a time of 26.79, resetting the record that she had claimed her Lower year. Danielle Liu ’14 not only set two individual records in the 200 IM and 400 Free, but also swam alongside Zhao, Co-Captain Kait Simpson ’14 and Katherine Sweetser ’17 in the 400 Relay. Andover will take on Northfield Mount Hermon (NMH) next Saturday at home.

**Boys Squash** _by Savannah Mastrangelo_
Andover Boys Squash rebounded from a close 4-3 loss to Groton (4-3) with a decisive win over Middlesex on Saturday. “If we had had our full team against Groton we could have pulled out with a win, but once again missing crucial players due to injury hurt us,” said Jack Quamme ’16. Andover hopes to continue its momentum next Saturday against St. Mark’s.

**Girls Squash** _by Sam Zager_
Andover Girls Squash played twice over the weekend, shutting out Loomis 7-0 and dropping 1-6 to Taft in its second “Play Day” of the year. Co-Captain Madeleine Mayhew ’15 brought home the only win for the team. Girls Squash also won its first ever match against Groton. Andover will attempt to regain its stride at Tabor on Wednesday.

Andover Boys Hockey took a 1-7 loss to Exeter this past Saturday. “We just have to be better. We have to battle harder, stay out of the box and execute as a team,” said Captain David Belluche ’14. Andover will try for a comeback on Wednesday against St. Sebastian’s.

Andover Girls Hockey split its games this weekend, defeating Brewster 3-2 and losing to St. Paul’s 3-2. Caroline Garrity ’15 opened the game against Brewster with a goal, and Hannah Sorkin ’14 scored on the power play while Eliza Quigley ’15 sealed the victory. Andover will play Lawrence Academy on Wednesday.

On Friday, Greg Devlin ’14 tied a school record with seven three-pointers, as Andover beat Milton 68-53. On Saturday, however, Andover fell to a talented Tabor team by a double-digit margin. The team will play Governor’s on Wednesday.

**Girls Basketball** _by Isabella Haegg_
Andover Girls Basketball lost to Milton Academy 54-31 on Saturday. Behind by just nine points at the half, Andover struggled to close the gap and was overpowered by Milton’s star 6’3” shooter, who scored a total of 28 points. Oppositely, Andover’s scoring was evenly spread across the team, with everyone putting in a strong effort. Andover will take on Thayer at home this Wednesday.
