Andover Field Hockey dug itself out of a two-point deficit on Wednesday to tie Lawrence Academy in its first regular season game.
Katerina and Nikoletta Toffoloni ’15 each scored a goal, while Evagelia Toffoloni ’15 assisted both.
After allowing two goals in the first half without finding any of its own, Andover finally responded less than 10 minutes into the second half.
Andover rushed the ball to Lawrence’s end of the field, allowing Nikoletta Toffoloni to pop the ball into the back of the net.
Andover continued to feed off of its momentum, and Katerina Toffoloni scored during an offensive corner to tie the game 2-2.
Lawrence threatened Andover’s lead in the final seconds of the game when it drew two offensive corners but never capitalized.
The game then went into a seven-versus-seven, sudden-death overtime.
Both teams went scoreless in the overtime, and the game ended tied 2-2.
“Despite having to overcome the grass and a very physical Lawrence team, we were successful in tying up the game,” said Evaglia Toffoloni, “Unfortunately, we were unable to capitalize on some great opportunities in the closing minutes and the overtime. Based on today’s performance, our season looks very promising.”
Andover battled through another overtime in a game against Thayer Academy on Saturday. Andover went into overtime tied 1-1 and ultimately fell 2-1.
Assisted by Evagelia Toffoloni, newcomer Eliza Quigley ’15 scored Andover’s lone goal.
Although Andover did not come out with the win, Lila Dolan ’15 was happy with the teamwork in the game.
“Everybody hustled and tried her hardest; I don’t think the score reflected how hard and well everyone worked individually and as a team,” Dolan said.
Andover looks to capture its first win of the regular season tomorrow at Loomis Chaffee.
