For the past few months, Andover sensation Jon Adler ’08 has “brought the funny” to the Features section as an associate editor. The question awaiting an answer is: Will Jon continue to “bring the funny” after switching to the brand new Humor section? The intent of this essay is to answer the aforementioned question by presenting convincing evidence to readers. Here is the plan: Background, Thesis, Evidence, Conclusion. Here is the execution: Humor only reached the Americas a century ago and its practice was relatively unknown. Upon the invention of the television, the concept of funny became common, and people found it provided for great entertainment (not the kind Arts claims to provide its readers). Even with its immense following, humor never graced Andover until the matriculation of two young lads in 2004, Jon Adler and Steven Bartz ’08 J.R. Santaniello ’08. A few weeks ago, the Andover population called for a revolution of The Phillipian. People had lost interest in reading Features with its careful investigative journalism and consistent integrity. Under the leadership of Adler and Santaniello, the people demanded to be entertained (again, not you, Arts). With a mutiny on the horizon, Board CXXIX listened to the people’s voice to prevent an uprising. Their solution: Humor. Who should be entrusted with this pilot section? After a close, but unanimous vote between Jon and himself, Jon Adler was chosen. Thesis: Jon Adler ’08 will be the best Humor editor ever. Point One: Jon Adler is filling the position of Will Cannon, Dave Curtis and Pete Smith meaning he is, at the very least, 300 percent man, twice the man Vin Diesel is. Point Two: Jon Adler is an American, who will never change the name of the most popular section from Humor to Humour. Point Three: Jon Adler never disappoints. He is a man of his word. He has never told a lie except for that one time in Vegas. Conclusion: Jon has “brought the funny” to The Phillipian, but with the recent departure of Steve Bartz, who will bring sexy back? –Steve Bartz
