Captain Katie Faulkner ’06 won two huge races on Saturday to lead the Girls Varsity Swim Team to a 113-73 victory over Hopkins. Hopkins ruined Andover’s undefeated season last year but Andover crushed Hopkins on Saturday, keeping its undefeated season alive. The air was filled with tension when the meet started. The Andover relay team of Veronica Faller ’09, Salena Casha ’09, Greta Martin ’09, and Emily Brenner ’06 exchanged the lead multiple times. With a quick bounce off the wall, Hopkins took the lead and won the relay, leaving the two Andover relay teams in second and third. Eager to avenge the close loss, Captain Faulkner zoomed through the 200 Free, barely out touching her opponent by 0.30; she broke two minutes with her personal best time of 1:59.57. In the 200 IM, Casha cruised to gold while Ruan finished just behind a Hopkins swimmer to finish third. Erika Roddy ’07 scored a personal best time of 25.42 in the 50 Free to finish second, only three-tenths of a second behind the Hopkins swimmer. Although Hopkins managed to win a good number of races, Andover was still ahead in points because of Andover’s depth. With their most amazing performance to date, Andover divers swept the event, beating the Hopkins divers by attempting more difficult dives. Liz Finnegan ’06 scored 192.5, nailing all her dives for first. After the diving, Annie Glancy ’09 glided into the wall with a silver medal and a personal best time of 1:04.07 in the 100 Fly. In the 100 Free, Erika dropped two-tenths of a second off her personal best with a time of 54.88 only to be out touched by 0.10 to land in second. Closely flanked by her adversaries in the 500 Free, Captain Faulkner finished in first place in 5:24 flat. However, with the failure of the timing system, the results were disputed and Hopkins officials claimed that Hopkins beat Faulkner by 0.10. In the 200 Free Relay, the Andover team of Roddy, Captain Faulkner, Brenner, and Ruan easily won gold. During the 100 Back, freshman Faller flew through the water, earning second place ande a personal best time of 1:05.38, closely followed by Caitlin Feeney ’08 and Sarah Pucillo ’08 in third and fourth. Attaining a new best time of 1:11.01 in the 100 Breast, Casha took first place. The meet ended spectacularly as Andover massacred Hopkins in the 400 Free Relay.
