Melissa Tetreau ’06 scored a beautiful goal on Saturday to beat New Hampton, bringing Andover’s winning streak to three games. Unfortunately that streak came to an end on Wednesday in a tough loss to Tabor Academy. On Friday, Andover came ready to play against the tough Brooks Team. The first period proved to be a tough battle on both sides of the rink, with neither team being able to create many chances for a goal. However, Andover continued its trend of breaking down late in the period, and allowing a fluke goal from Brooks. With just three seconds remaining in the period, Andover allowed a Brooks player to get off a hard shot that found the net after being partially blocked. Brooks took the lead and the momentum to the locker room. In the second period, however, the tough Andover squad proved to be too much for Brooks. Andover out-shot its opponent 17-7, with goals from Liv Coffey ’07 and Julie Wadland ’06, both coming off nice passes from Lindsey Moramarco ’06. In the third, Andover continued their domination, controlling the play, and out-shooting Brooks an astonishing 18-1. Erica Christensen ’05, and Ali Moss ’07 scored Andover’s last two goals. The next day, Andover took on a New Hampton team who has been struggling all season. Right from the start things looked bright for Andover as Lindsey Weiner ’08 slapped a Meg Shea ’07 rebound in for a goal with only a 1:45 into the first period. Andover turned around its late period woes, scoring again with just 34 seconds remaining in the first. This time it was Moss who put home a Coffey slap-shot, and gave Andover a 2-0 lead at the end of the period. Andover came out over-confident in the second, and allowed its opponent to get back into the game as New Hampton scored two goals just 1:32 apart from each other to tie it at two. However, Andover came right back as Tetreau scored what would prove to be the game-winner, assisted by Coffey and goalie Melissa McDonald ’06. The flashy goal was started by a long breakout pass from McDonald up to Coffey, who then gave to Tetreau. Tetreau then beat two defenders, and surprised the goalie with a bullet to the top corner. Andover’s final goal came in the third by Moramarco. On Wednesday, Andover took on a strong Tabor team, but even though it fought tooth and nail to the end, it came up short, and lost 2-0, ending its winning streak at three. The first period started off slow for Andover, as it couldn’t get any momentum. Tabor was able to control the play, and scored a goal that took a funny bounce on the way in to beat Andover’s goalie and end the period with a one goal lead In the second, Andover came out enthused and controlled the play. Still, Andover was unable to capitilize on its opportunities, a constant problem that has cost it several games. The third showed more of the same, as Andover kept the puck in the offensive zone nearly the whole time, but the Tabor goalie kept Andover off the scoreboard. In a last attempt to score, Andover pulled its goalie to get an extra attacker on the ice. Though it did have several chances to score, Andover still could not put the puck home, and eventually Tabor was able to shoot an easy shot into the empty net, ending the game at 2-0.
