Up 4-1 early in the third period against Governor’s, Charlie Spence ’21 shot the puck into the top corner of the net, bringing Andover Boys Hockey to a 5-1 lead. Andover went on to defeat Governor’s 10-5 on Friday. The team lost to Cushing this past Wednesday 8-4, bringing its record to 14-9-1.
According to Co-Captain Christian Powers ’19 and Head Coach Paul Tortorella ’80, Mac Carso PG’19, who scored four goals and assisted another goal, helped lift the team to victory against Governor’s.
Tortorella said, “Carso, I would say, got things going. He scored the first two and then everybody sort of got excited and we showed what we could do. We really moved the puck well.”
Although falling behind 1-0 at the end of the first period, Andover fought back, scoring four goals to in the second period, according to Powers.
“[Governor’s] scored the first goal of the game, so we battled back pretty hard. We didn’t let that get to us and we played really well as a team,” said Powers.
According to Tortorella, the team needed to be stronger in the defensive zone in its game against Governor’s. In addition, Coach Tortorella also feels that Andover could benefit from a stronger start in its games.
“We can improve on the way we start the game. We need to play better in the first period,” Coach Tortorella said.
Andover’s game against Cushing was an important one in the scheme of making the Elite Eight, as, heading into Wednesday’s game, both teams sat near the top eight in the league. Although Andover did not win Wednesday’s game, the chance of making the Elite Eight in New England remains a possibility.
Andover will host Brooks at home this Friday.
