Captains Feature

This year’s Andover Baseball season is headlined by the appointment of two captains, Rory Ziomek ’13 and Seamus O’Neill ’13. Ziomek is a three-year Senior and a three-year Varsity player in both baseball and basketball. O’Neill is a four-year Senior and a Varsity letterman in both hockey and baseball. O’Neill anchors the outfield, while Ziomek is the team’s pitcher. Both hailing from Amherst, MA, Ziomek and O’Neill have created a strong bond over the years. “It’s been a blast serving alongside Rory. He is a really good friend of mine as well as a great competitor,” said O’Neill. “It was awesome to have played with him in Amherst and to be able to play with him again here is great.” “I am very excited to captain with Seamus because he is just a great guy,” said Ziomek. “I think we work really well as a pair which makes being a captain easy,” A captain must be a leader on and off the field. Andover Baseball’s tight-knit family will make motivating the team easy for O’Neill and Ziomek. “We have got a great group of guys who all love baseball and love working hard, so this season should be a lot of fun,” said Ziomek. “The team has impeccable work ethic and character which makes being a captain a great honor,” added O’Neill. Ziomek and O’Neill had their first tests in Florida over Spring Break which showed them what the team was made of. “We were solid all-around, and Coach Graber was clear that our hard work in the preseason and in Florida had paid off,” said Ziomek ’13. Ziomek, however, felt like the team’s real test would be its opening game against a tough, post graduate filled Bridgton team. “Bridgton was a great test because we got to bring together all of the things that we have been working so hard on during the offseason,” said Ziomek. “I was proud to be a leader on Andover’s baseball team because I saw all of our hard work come to fruition in this game.” Andover Baseball has a great future with Ziomek and O’Neill at the helm. these two leaders will guide the team to another successful season, capped off with a Prep School Championship.
