Andover closed out its competition season in impressive fashion at the Championship race at Proctor last Wednesday, clinching third-place season finishes in the Boys A and Girls A groups. Points earned from finishes were doubled and added to the culimative total for each team, giving each team a chance to turn its season around in the Championship race. Ian Whittall ’14 led the Andover Boys A group in last Wednesday’s circuit race, finishing first out of all the Andover riders and seventh overall with a time of 31:59. “I thought the race could have gone better for a lot of races. My race started off poorly before I did not clip my shoes into the pedals quickly. I climbed my way back from the back of the racers to near the front and had a tough sprint at the end,” said Whittall. Logan Blaine ’14, Nick Swenson ’15 and Co-Captain Sean Burkitt ’14 finished eighth, 14th and 15th in Boys A, respectively. Paxton Hyde ’15 took first place in the Boys B season tally. Co-Captain and consistent top-two finisher Zoe Chazen ’14 was sidelined this week with a head injury, leaving no Andover riders in the Girls A group. The absence hurt her cumilated point total, but Chazen still maintained a third place individual season finish. Andover has its traditional final race Saturday at Phillips Exeter Academy. With the all the points already added up, Andover is fighting purely for bragging rights. Exeter finished first overall in New Englands so a win for Andover will be no easy task.
