For the eighth year in a row, Andover Golf fell to Deerfield and with it, relented its undefeated season.
Last Friday, a day before the Deerfield matchup, Andover steamrolled Dexter, recording a decisive seven individual wins and taking the team events 3.5-0.5. The final score was 10.5-1.5 in favor of Andover.
“We all played well, everyone on the team. It was great to be able to sweep the team events. It really showed our depth across the board,” said Alexa Tsay ’17.
Addison Davenport ’15 won his first Varsity match after tying his inaugural match versus Holderness last month.
“I played well and feel well prepared going into Deerfield,” said Tsay, but Andover could not continue its winning ways in its clash with this year’s Newport tournament champions.
Deerfield swept Andover 9-0. Last season, Andover only dropped the meet 9-3.
The lone victor of the seven Andover golfers, Peter Hahn ’16 could not contribute to Andover’s score since he was playing in the tiebreaker spot. His score would only have counted if the match was tied.
“Judging from their Newport scores and last season, we knew that they were going to be a tough opponent. Crumpin Fox was a very tricky course and them knowing the layout obviously gave them an advantage,” said Hahn.
“The score didn’t necessarily reflect how close the matches were. It was far from our worst performance of the season, it just happened to be against a very tough opponent,” he added.
Many of the players posted personal season bests, but Deerfield edged out Andover in every match except Hahn’s.
“I played really well this weekend, it was one of my best rounds that I’ve played. My opponent was a machine, he didn’t miss anything or make any mistakes,” said Rob Devaney ’14. “It was obviously difficult to beat him, being down most of the match.”
Looking ahead to this weekend, Andover Golf hopes to get back on a roll against a traditionally strong BB&N team on Friday.
