Girls Softball Wins Third Consecutive Championship

With twenty-four strikeouts and seven RBIs from Co-Captain Kayla Maloney ’13, Andover Softball took home the Big East Tournament Title for the third straight season. In doing so, Andover became the first team in the tournament’s history to win three consecutive championships.
Ravenne Nasser ’15 kicked off the tournament on a strong note for Andover, pitching seven strong innings to lead Andover to a 9-3 victory over Worcester. Maloney and Nikki Pelletier ’13 were instrumental in the victory, tallying a combined eight RBIs to help Andover advance to the next round.
Later on Saturday, Maloney took the hill for her fifth time this season, throwing a no-hitter en route to a 2-1 victory over BB&N. Maloney’s attempt for a perfect game was derailed by four Andover errors.
In the championship game on Sunday, Maloney returned to the mound victorious, holding Tabor scoreless in the final six innings as Andover beat last year’s finalist once again, 4-1. Maloney was supported by Caitlin Clancy ’13, who went 2-3 with an extra-base hit and an RBI, and Co-Captain Abby Chung ’13, who had four quality-at-bats, a hit, and an RBI. Kasey Hartung ’14 was also a key contributor, scoring the winning run and playing spectacular defense at third base.
Andover’s defeat over Worcester, BB&N and Tabor moved the team to a perfect 11-0 on the year.
In recognition of their contributions, Maloney, Pelletier, and Clancy were named to the “all-tourney” team. Andover will face Brooks and Exeter this week to cap off its exhilarating season.
