Jim Ventre ’79 Named Dean of Admission

Jim Ventre ’79, Director of Financial Aid and Interim Dean of Admission, will serve as Andover’s next Dean of Admission, effective February 1, 2013, according to an e-mail sent yesterday by Head of School John Palfrey.

“Jim emerged from a highly competitive field as the candidate with the greatest ability to lead and strengthen Andover’s well-established admission program,” wrote Palfrey in his e-mail to the Andover community.

“Jim’s experience and reputation in boarding school admissions are unparalleled. He has been involved in all aspects of our mission to recruit, enroll and support talented youth from every quarter,” wrote Palfrey.

Ventre has served as Interim Dean of Admission for the last seven months, after Jane Fried, former Dean of Admission, left Andover last July to become Head of The Brearley School in New York City.

The search for a new Dean of Admission began in October 2012. The search committee was comprised of Palfrey, Stephanie Curci, Instructor in English, Linda Griffith, Dean of Community and Multicultural Development (CAMD), Victor Henningsen ’69, Instructor in History, Nancy Jeton, Special Assistant to the Head of School, and Tracy Sweet, Director of Communications, according to a previous article in The Phillipian.

Last week, the three final candidates for the position visited campus to meet with a wide array of faculty, staff, students and administrators, as well as members of the Admission Office.
