Scoreless Overtime Results in Tie

Goals by Evagelia Toffoloni ’15 and Captain Cara Daly ’13 led Andover to a tie against Choate Rosemary Hall on Saturday.

The overtime was exhilarating and nerve-wracking, but neither teams could convert and the game remained at 2-2.

“We really picked up the intensity at the end of the game, and we did not let them score on us during overtime,” said Eliza Quigley ’15.

“Ashlyn Aiello ’14 [Andover’s goalie] is really stepping it up and improving during practice, and she is the one who really kept us in the game,” Quigley continued. “Hopefully we can capitalize on more opportunities during our future games.”

Andover started the game off with a bang, as Toffoloni scored just six minutes into the game.

Later in the first half, the Choate offense responded with a goal of its own.

Keeping up the energy, Choate took advantage of another scoring opportunity at the end of the first half.

This goal sent Andover into halftime down 2-1.

Just as in the beginning of the game, Andover entered the second half motivated and scored within just three minutes.

The teams battled for another goal for the rest of the second half and overtime, but both goalies saved all scoring opportunities the opposing team had.

Evagelia Toffoloni was impressed with the cohesive and aggressive play Andover exhibited.

“The defense and the goaltending was strong, robbing Choate of their many scoring opportunities. We also improved on our offensive corners as Daly scored a goal, assisted by Nikoletta Toffoloni [’15],” she said.

She added, “We need to spread out, move the ball quickly down the field and capitalize on our scoring opportunities. Most importantly, we need to play with maximum intensity for the whole 60 minutes. Our team needs to be more aggressive in the offensive zone, and we need to play hard the whole game, not letting down for even a moment.”

The game against Milton scheduled for this Wednesday was cancelled due to weather, but Andover looks to better its record, currently 1-3-2, against St. Paul’s this Saturday.
