MacRae ’13 Breaks Pool and Personal Record; Team Swims to Victory

Lilybet MacRae ’13 broke a school diving record as well as her personal best, with a score of 312.40 points last week in Andover Girls Swimming and Diving’s 105-78 victory at Hopkins School last Saturday.

Co-Captain Molly Levene ’12 said, “Lilybet was smiling the entire time. It was really fun to watch. Andover is really fortunate to go into the diving and know that the outcome will help our overall score. Lilybet is phenomenal.”

Amy Zhao ’14 also broke a pool record in the 50 Freestyle by earning first place in 24.38. Zhao would later win the 100 Butterfly as well.

The rest of the Andover Girls Swimming squad swept Hopkins from start to finish. The team started its day with a 1-3 victory in the 200 Medley Relay. The team of Co-Captain Julia Torabi ’12, Qiqi Ren ’15, Miranda An ’15 and Levene won the race in 1:57.67, and the team of Emily Carrolo ’13, Emily McKinnon ’13, Samantha Martinez ’13 and Mary Catherine Nanda ’14 placed third in 2:02.48.

An not only won in the 200 Medley but also won the 200 Free in 1:59.70. Julia Smachlo ’13 followed closely behind in second with 2:00.17.

In the 200 Individual Medley, Danielle Liu ’14 triumphed over Hopkins with 2:11.70. Liu also won the 500 with 5:07.06, Lauren Conte ’14 placed third with 5:32.62, and Levene placed fourth with 5:35.00.

Andover took another 1-2-3 finish in the 100 Freestyle, with Ren swimming a time of 56.92, Smachlo with 57.19 and Hailey Novis ’13 with 57.72.

In the last event of the day, the 400 Free Relay, Andover posted a strong 1-3 finish. Liu, Novis, Ren and Zhao took first with 3:44.39, and Lydia Azaret ’12, McKinnon, Conte and Smachlo took third with 4:04.64.

Andover will host its next meet on Wednesday against Suffield, where Andover hopes to defend its undefeated record.
