After graduating five Seniors last spring, Andover Boys Squash hopes to improve its new players and have a strong season. Last year, Andover placed fifth at Interschols and finished sixth in division three of a tournament in Connecticut that included nearly 100 schools. The team’s regular season record was 5-15. Captain T.J. Lenzo ’12, Alec Buck ’13, Alex Demeulenaere ’13 and Kun Woo Kim ’14, the team’s only returners, will use their experience to lead the team’s newer players. Reid Bradt ’15, Justin Curtis ’15, Cam Morose ’13, Malachi Price ’13 and Jake Rauh ’14, all new to the team, will complete the roster. Lenzo, the team’s only Senior, said, “We are looking for these younger kids to step up and hopefully contribute a lot to the program this year.” Coach Thomas Hodgson said, “It’s a very young team this year, and the issue for us is going to be how much progress we can get over the season.” Kim, who was the fourth seed on the Andover team last year, is the returning player who was seeded the highest last year. The top three players all graduated. Demeulenaere said, “Basically, we know that it is going to be a tough season because of our lack of experience, but our goals are not just to win matches. We want to improve as a team and begin to compete at a higher level.” The team’s first match of the season is at home against Tabor this Saturday. Andover lost to Tabor last year, but Andover hopes to win the rematch to start the season positively. Lenzo said, “We hope to keep [the match against Tabor] closer this year. So far, in practice we have focused a lot on conditioning, flexibility and technical work such as accuracy and rail drills.”
