Robertson ’11 Robs Double Double-Doubles in Double Win Week

Captain Megan Roberston ’11 poured in 39 points over 2 games this week, leading Andover to an undefeated week. On Monday, Andover matched up against the talented 10-3 Suffield Academy team. Once again, Andover got out to a slow start in the first half but picked up their intensity in the second half to secure a win. Eight minutes into the game, Andover found themselves down by nine thanks to tenacious defense by Suffield. After a much needed timeout, Andover composed itself, and regained a 26-25 lead at the break. Andover carried over its momentum into the second half as it picked up the intensity, and managed to retain their lead. Leah Humes ’12 and Nekele McCall ’14 grabbed 6 and 3 steals respectively, leading Andover’s increased defensive intensity. Captain Robertson led the offensive attack for Andover, dropping 16 points in the second half. Robertson finished with a double-double with 20 points and 14 rebounds. Alex Kiss-Rusk ’12 helped control the offensive and defensive posts as well with 16 points, 12 rebounds, and 3 blocks. Post-graduate Ashleigh Vargas ’11 was crucial in the victory as well, scoring 15 points. Andover ended the game with a 59-37 win. “We played so well in the second half against Suffield,” said Humes. “Our frontcourt controlled the boards and the paint, and our guards were running all over their defense through pressure defense and quick, up-court passes.” On Wednesday, Andover was finally able to jump out to an early lead, going up 11-2 to start the first half against BB&N. BB&N regained its composure as it tied the game with five minutes remaining in the half. Robertson’s 11 first half points allowed Andover to come back, however, and stake a 22-17 lead. With 11 minutes remaining in the game, Andover held onto a 30-24 lead, and once again its defense led it to a well-fought victory over a talented team. Robertson and Kiss-Rusk led the team with 19 points apiece. Robertson produced yet another double-double with 11 rebounds. Both Humes and Vargas contributed on the glass as well, as they combined for 15 rebounds. Andover went on to claim a 15 point win, just eclipsing the 50 point mark and holding BB&N to just 35 points. “Although our defense was as good as ever, it was also probably our best offensive performance of the season,” said Kiss-Rusk. “Everybody played their role well, we were able to completely dominate the post, and we played the game intelligently and just ran our offense.” With this win, Andover improved its record to 10-6 and looks to play NMH on Friday.
