Look of the Week: Fay Feghali ’12 Comfortable Confidence

Fay Feghali ’12 is a perfect example of someone who is comfortable with herself and what she wears. “I just like to put on whatever fits my body. I don’t try and be someone in a magazine,” said Feghali, “We don’t all have the same body type, so obviously we have to adapt our style to our build and physical structure and not specifically to a certain person in a magazine, who may look good in things we don’t look good in, and vice versa.” Feghali is inspired by her mother, who has a great sense wardrobe which Feghali sometimes raids. Feghali wears basics in neutral colors like beige, brown and blue, but likes to “mix it up with little splashes of color.” Scarves almost always make appearances in Feghali’s outfits. She will go often go for bright colors. “I don’t try to be something I’m not,” said Feghali. She does not change because of what people say, because she likes to feel comfortable with what she wears. Feghali enthusiastically engaged in Andover’s traditioal psychs. She’ll dress up for team spirit day to the best of her ability, even if it means abandoning her own taste for the day. Feghali said, “For the cowgirl psych I put on cowboy boots, but I will never wear cowboy boots otherwise.” Feghali thinks that the cultural diversity at Andover leads students to have a variety of interesting styles. Feghali said there are “chic” people and “people who wear sweatpants, but one can be either and it won’t matter.” Feghali added, “You will get the occasional ‘why are you wearing this,’ but you can still vary.” Feghali’s sense of style has grown with time. Feghali used to be afraid to wander from the usual “jeans and top,” but now she has fun dressing in adventurous outfits that express her creativity. Feghali said, “I’d rather take a risk than stay like I used to”. Before she walks out the door and starts her day Feghali tries to “look in the mirror and say ‘I am a confident girl’.” Her clothing also represents her mood. If she wears something tight and fashionable, it means she feels good about herself and is “ready to take on the world”. In contrast, when she goes to school in sweatpants it signifies she just wants to “get through the day and do well on her tests.” Feghali offers fashion advice: “My rule of thumb for getting dressed is when you look in the mirror, you have to like what you see, and wear what looks good on your body, don’t wear what looks good on other people’s bodies.”
