Wyckoff ’11 Powers Andover Offense to Winning Week

Kira Wyckoff ’11 led scoring for Andover in all three games this week, leading Andover to a 2-1 week.

On Saturday, Andover took on Suffield Academy. Andover capitalized on a lot of fast breaks and finished with successful attacks. Firing an onslaught of shots on net, Andover cruised to a 17-8 win.

“I was glad that we played Suffield first because it was a perfect warm up for playing Loomis later on,” said Co-Captain Alanna Waldman ’10.

In the second half of the doubleheader, Andover faced returning league champions Loomis. Despite having three players missing from the game, Andover’s passing was fluid throughout.

“We are finally learning how everyone plays and what everyone’s strengths are and we put this to a good use against a very good Loomis team,” said Waldman.

On the defensive end, Co-Goalie and Captain Taylor Clarke ’10 stood tough against a powerful Loomis attack.

Wyckoff scored most of her points from five-meter penalties. She led the team in scoring once again. Waldman kept the game close by adding two goals of her own.

Despite strong performances, Andover lost 10-15.

This Wednesday, Andover challenged Williston Northhampton without Waldman.

“Williston was a lot stronger than we had expected. The coaches wanted to get more people in to play but only a few of the non-starters got rotated in. We also did a great job with Alanna [Waldman] not being available to play,” said Samantha Martinez ’13.

Wyckoff again led the team in scoring, and Julia Torabi closely followed with a couple of goals of her own.

Goalie Clarke had six impressive hard throw saves, holding off Williston as Andover secured the 9-8 win.

“We missed Alanna’s strong leadership but in the end we managed to pull through and secure an awesome win,” said Molly Levene ’12.

Coach Cindy Efinger said, “This team is not a quitter. They are determined and play every play with the energy we need to become winners. They make me proud.”

Andover will face Hotchkiss and rematch Suffield this weekend.
