Andover Finishes 1-1-1 Week With 8-2 Win Over New Hampton

Mari Walsh ’11 and Katie Riley ’10 both scored hat tricks on Wednesday to lead the team to an 8-2 blowout victory against New Hampton. After a rough start to the season, Andover’s victory was a huge confidence booster. In addition to Riley’s three goals and Walsh’s four, Katherine Sherrill ’10 also scored one. The defense and goaltending were very solid, holding the New Hampton offense to only two goals. “I think the team’s win today reminded us that we do have the capability to score 8 goals in a game, and that we can succeed if we work well together. I think it set a good tone for going into our game this weekend vs. St. Pauls.” said Co-Captain Avery Stone ’10. Co-Captain Lauren Glynn ’10 said, “The last few games have shown that we can hang and play with any team, it’s just a matter of our will and determination..” The return of several key players from injury was crucial to the team’s success in the game. The previous Saturday, Andover face off against Choate. Andover and Choate faced off earlier in the season in the Taft Tournament, and although Andover lost 2-1, Kellie Walsh ’11 said that she considered it to be one of the best games they have played all year. Although Andover lost 4-2, the team played well against a very talented team. Andover battled a tough Brooks opponent in a late Tuesday night away game. After back and forth play for three periods, the game ended in a 1-1 tie after Mari Walsh scored the game-tying goal in the third period. Despite not coming home with the win, the team looked back at the game with optimism. “Since coming back from break we have played many good teams and it was good to have a game to bring our confidence back,” said Sherrill. With determination, Andover will play St. Paul’s this Saturday.
