Stifling Offensive Power Buries Opponents as Andover Scores 34 Goals in Two Wins

Just a minute into Saturday’s game against Groton, Kyleigh Keating ‘10 received the ball behind the net and fed a pass to Emily Rademacher ’11, who buried the first goal of the game. Andover defeated Groton with a final score of 19-7. Rademacher’s goal gave Andover an early lead, and it seemed as if the Girls Lacrosse team was going to dominate. Only 30 seconds later, though, Groton managed to score on a free position shot. With the score tied at 1-1, Andover took control of the game in both the offensive and defensive zones. By the end of the first half, the team had a commanding lead of 11-3. Starting the second half with a huge lead, the girls were relentless as Alissa Fromkin ‘09 scored just 30 seconds into the half. After obtaining a 10 goal lead just a few minutes into the second half, the clock began to run making for a shorter than usual game. By the end of the game, Groton was unable to match Andover’s high-powered offense and tight defense. Andover won with aA final score of 19-7, marking the team’s highest offensive performance thus far. Keating had a notable performance, ending the game with six goals and two assists for eight points and extending her scoring streak to five games. Fromkin also added four goals of her own. On Wednesday the girls headed to Northfield Mount Hermon. After a long bus ride, Andover established themselves as the dominant team from the start. Just 40 seconds into the game, Fromkin scored from just inside the eight-meter to put Andover up 1-0. Brooke Van Valkenburg ’12 grabbed a ground ball off the next draw and carried the ball down the field to score, increasing Andover’s lead to 2-0. As the game became one sided, Andover’s defense was hardly tested. Goalie Kaitlin Gaiss ’09 ended the first half with a shutout and Andover led 8-0. Andover used the second half of the game to practice its settled offense and its transition defense. At the end of the game Andover claimed the victory, 15-4. Morgan Healey ’09 said, “This game was good because we got ahead early and had the chance to experiment in the offensive zone.” Healey and Van Valkenburg both had highlight performances against NMH, scoring four goals each.
