Speed & Aggression of Brooks Overpowers Andover, 13-8

With less than a minute left in the first, Summer Washburn ’11 intercepted a long pass from Brooks’ goalie to regain possession, and score for Andover. Despite Washburn’s goal, Andover Girls Lacrosse fell to Brooks in a tightly contested game, 8-13. Brooks scored the first goal of the game two minutes after the opening whistle, but Andover played strong defense and prevented Brooks from scoring again until half way through the first half. Alissa Fromkin ’09 scored with ten minutes into the game to tie the game up at 1-1, and she responded to Brooks’ second goal a minute later dodging her defender at the crease and scoring to tie the game at 2-2. “We had several good scoring opportunities in the first half but were stymied by an aggressive and fast Brooks defense,” said Coach Kate Dolan. Andover adjusted well to Brooks speed and started the second half with a quick goal from Fromkin assisted by Co-Captain Jen Downing ’08. Brooks did not let Andover gain the momentum of the game and scored two fast break goals past Andover goalie, Kaitlin Gaiss ’09. Gaiss had a strong game in net, recording ten saves and making three interceptions. Andover fought its way back into the game when Fromkin scored her fourth goal, beating her defender and taking a left-handed low shot to close the gap to 5-7. Later, Dana Feeny ’08 won a face-off draw and scored to close the gap up at 11-7. Brooks beat Andover again on two fast-break opportunities and the final score stood at 13-8. On Saturday, Andover beat Lawrence Academy 17-7. Jamie Harisiades ’08 lead the offense with five goals.
