This Saturday Andover Volleyball played in the Founding Four tournament, hosted by Northfield Mount Hermon. In addition to NMH, the tournament included Loomis Chaffee and Choate Rosemary Hall. Andover entered the tournament seeded fourth. Andover lost to NMH, the number one seed with an in-league record of 6-0, in the semifinals. The final score was 0-3. In game one, NMH took a strong lead. While Andover managed to tie the score at 5-5, NMH was too much for the team to handle. Andover lost the match 22-30. In game two, Andover had a promising start, taking a five-point lead early at 10-5. NMH gained a steady rhythm from that position, taking five straight points for the win. The final score was 18-30. NMH completely dominated game three, with Andover only scoring one point off of a serve. All of the other points were earned on side outs. The final score was the lowest for Andover at 11-30. Co-Captain James McGuinness ’08 said, “Well, the tournament did not go as well as I thought it would. We are an incredibly skillful team, unfortunately we did not have the will to win.” McGuinness continued, “NMH came into the tournament with the desire you need to win and we just didn’t have that same intensity. We put up a good fight during games one and two, but NMH played incredibly well and swept us 3-0. It has been a great season though, and it’s a shame that it had to end like this.”
