Eliza Flynn ’10, playing at the number one singles position, effortlessly took her two sets, winning 6-0 and 6-1. The Varsity A Tennis team continued to dominate this weekend adding two more wins to their undefeated record. After a nail-biting victory of 8-7 against Hotchkiss last Wednesday, Andover came back this weekend to forcefully defeat Nobles 13-2 and Choate 14-1. Co-Captain Lauren Wilmarth ’09 followed closely behind in the number two singles position and, with powerful, accurate serves and a strong backhand, also won both her sets 6-0 and 6-0. New senior Belinda Ortega ’08 won both her sets 6-0 and 6-2 at the number three singles position. Carolyn Brown ’09 also won both her sets 6-3 and 6-4. At the number five singles position, Arianna Van Sluytman ’08 played a smart game and was able to ace her opponent 6-0, 6-0. Co-Captain Maggie Maffione ’08 and Ortega played at the number one doubles spot as they won their set 8-4. Against Choate on Saturday, the team came out strong, winning all but one set. Moving up to play at the number three position, Brown had a great match and won both her sets. “[Brown] did an excellent job moving her opponent all over the court and playing key points beautifully,” Coach Grant commented. Flynn, playing at number one again, also took both her sets 6-4 and 6-0. Co-Captain Wilmarth also won her two sets 6-2 and 6-0. Wilmarth and Flynn teamed up for the number one doubles position and, with superior teamwork, they were able to beat their opponents 8-3. Andover is hoping to continue its undefeated season against BB&N this Friday.
