After recording a strong win against Holderness last week, the Andover Golf team continued its winning streak by demolishing an inexperienced New Hampton team last Tuesday at Indian Ridge Country Club. The team completed a full sweep of all matches as Andover defeated New Hampton 6-0. Both Wutae Lee ’10 and Jeff Abboud ’08 won every hole of their matches closing out their opponents just after the halfway points of their matches. Following close behind, Jim Ricker ’09 and Will Lindsey ’10 closed out their matches quickly as well with strong putting. The closest match of the day was the battle between the two teams’ number one players. Nicholas Koh ’08 got off to a rough start after losing the first two holes to an unwavering New Hampton number one. However, Koh’s immense power proved too much for his opponent as he crushed his drives on the next two holes to get his match back to even ground. Koh then delivered the finishing blow to his opponent when he destroyed a drive, hitting the three-hundred forty yard par four sixth in one. After this moral booster for the players, the team traveled to face off against Proctor at New Hampshire Country Club. Andover took advantage of these good conditions, defeating Proctor 6-3. However, the score did not reflect the closeness of the matches at all. Lindsey secured the win for Andover after defeating his Proctor opponent, while playing partner Andrew Cox ’08 followed up on Lindsey’s strong play, helping the pair win their better ball contest on the final hole. Although the final foursome was extremely close, both Brian Russell ’09 and Ricker were able to close out their individual matches, earning two points for Andover. Once again, the most closely contested match went to the first pairing, where numbers one and two Koh and Ho fought valiantly for their tight better ball match. However, the pair was able to secure the better ball match through great teamwork as Ho sunk a fifteen-foot slider, with the read provided by Koh, to secure his match as well as the better ball match. Coming of a winning streak of four straight matches, Andover looks to win the most coveted tournament of the year: Saturday’s Andover Newport Invitational.
