Despite holding a one-goal lead entering the 3rd period, Andover couldn’t contain Deerfield’s high-powered offense and fell, 6-3. The heartbreaking loss halted Andover’s winning streak at five. After a 1-1 week, Andover’s season record stands at 10-7. On Saturday, with Chase Potter ’09 playing in goal for the second time this season, Andover started the game tentatively against Loomis. Just 1:25 into the first period, Loomis beat Potter to take the lead 1-0. However, Andover dominated the remainder of the game. On the powerplay, Andrew Cox ’08 scored the first of his two goals to tie the game at 1-1. Cox scored again on the powerplay, and gave Andover a 2-1 lead heading into the first intermission. Chris Kreider ’10 scored his team leading 17th goal of the season at the 3:59 mark in the second period to extend the Andover lead to 3-1. The Andover scoring continued in the third period with a pair of goals by Bobby Farnham ’08. The first came at the 7:51 mark in the third period. Farnham’s second came just two minutes later after a great pass by Bennett Carroccio ’10. Farnham’s goals cemented the Andover victory, as the team cruised to a 5-1 win. On Wednesday, Kreider scored to give Andover a 3-2 lead in the second period, but Andover was unable to hold on, losing 6-3 to Deerfield. Deerfield controlled the flow of the play for the beginning of the first period. Five minutes into the game, Deerfield struck first with a top right shot from the right circle. Andover responded with a Jack Walsh ’08 goal two minutes later to equalize the score. Before the end of the period, Andover would strike again on the powerplay. Cox received a pass in front of the net and scored on a backhanded shot, giving Andover a 2-1 lead. Andover couldn’t hold the lead heading into the first intermission, as a Deerfield player tipped a shot and then scored on the rebound, tying the game at 2-2. Andover came out strong in the second period and scored quickly. Kreider fired a snapshot and found the back of the net , giving Andover a 3-2 lead. The game fell apart for Andover in the third period, as Deerfield scored four straight goals to win the game 6-3. Andover will look to rebound on Friday against powerhouse Belmont Hill.
