The Secret Diary

So we got to spend a week at home for Thanksgiving break but now we are back to take on three long weeks of work and stress. Christmas vacation never seemed farther away. The reality of how close finals are and how little we actually know the material in all of our classes is a little bit overwhelming. Underclassmen share a lot of stories about how they reunited with old friends back home while upperclassmen bond over the fact they have no friends left at home and spent the whole break on their couches watching marathons of America‘s Next Top Model. Back on campus, this is the week the freshman population seems to increase dramatically. They finally venture out of their dorms and are sighted walking around more. I see packs of them in the library and in Commons… speaking of which, these are our last three weeks of Commons! That is another reality that hasn’t really sunk into our heads yet. However, I am sure Uncommons will suffice for the next sixteen months… Of course, I need to provide the weekly update on my crush. I would say that Sadie was an overall successful experience two weekends ago. We only made a few awkward trips to Ryley for water, and I only stepped on his feet three times. I attempted to sing along to one song, but got the words wrong. Luckily, it is socially acceptable to dance for a solid period of time without speaking to your date. Let’s just say we danced most of the night. While waiting in line to get in and walking back to our dorms, we were fortunate enough to run into our friends and keep up the small talk. Sadie was fun, but to be honest, I’m glad the boys have to do the asking for the rest of the year. After Sadie, I wrote the standard “thanks for going with me, last night was fun!” post on his wall, and received the simple yet predictable “yeah it was” reply. Ever since, we haven’t exactly had a real conversation… or been in contact per se. However, I still have hope that he will ask me, “How was your Thanksgiving vacation?” and produce some sparks at our next encounter…
