Lawrence’s Café Azteca is known for being one of the best Mexican restaurants in the entire Boston area. From the outside, the restaurant doesn’t look like much. Yet once you walk through the door, it feels like you’ve taken a trip all the way down to Mexico. From the decorations on the walls to the traditional tapestries, the overall atmosphere is cheerful and bright. The restaurant recently added many new dining rooms for different types of customers. Café Azteca is good for couples, large parties and even families with little children. The service is friendly and timely. Occasionally, a lively mariachi band goes from table to table. And you get all this before you even open the menu. Café Azteca serves authentic Mexican food such as Molé, which is simmered chicken in cocoa flavoring, and mouthwatering sauteed beef plates with spicy brown sauce and cactus strips. The more familiar tacos, fajitas, enchiladas, chimichangas and quesadillas do not taste like the Americanized ones you would find at Taco Bell. Café Azteca is affordable with most items priced around $10. With those kinds of prices, and the quality of the food they serve at Cafe Azteca, there is no reason not to drive up to Lawrence.
