Boys Swimming Remains Undefeated

Co-Captain Howie Kalter ’07 crushed the competition, contributing to the Boys Varsity Swim team’s wins over both Northfield Mount Herman School and Milton Academy in last Saturday’s tri-meet. With only half the team present, Andover prevailed 75-19 and 61-33 over hosts NMH and Milton, respectively and improving its undefeated record to 4-0. Limited to two lanes, only twelve Andover swimmers participated. Taking control immediately, the squad of Andrew Faulkner ’07, Curtis Hon ’10, Brendon Sullivan ’07 and Co-Captain Ryan Ferguson ’07 out-kicked Milton to win the 200 medley relay. Matched against a tough Milton swimmer, Hon and Kevin Zhai ’08 both raced strong to take second and third in the 200 Individual Medley. The team of Sullivan, Jimmy Brenner ’10, Hon and Co-Captain Kalter won the 200 Freestyle Relay. Out-sprinting a Milton competitor, Andrew Faulkner secured second in the 100 Backstroke, followed by his brother, William ’09, who took fourth. Hon succeeded in winning in the 100 Breaststroke after an intense back-and-forth battle that continued all the way though the last yard. With impressive swims by Zhai, Co-Captain Ferguson, Andrew Faulkner and Co-Captain Kalter, Andover completed the meet with a comfortable win in the 400 Freestyle Relay. Enjoying the two wins, Andrew Faulkner reflected, “We had already won our first two meets by large margins and knew that we would win these two as well if we didn’t mess up. During my race I felt tired; Coach Hugon worked us hard right through Friday. We have the depth and talent to do well at Interschols, right now we have got to just work hard and stay healthy.”
