In the spotlight this Andover-Exeter weekend are Boys and Girls Basketball and Boys and Girls Hockey. Boys Basketball has seen a once promising season turn into a lost season as the team has lost nine out of its last ten games. The team won four straight games after returning from winter break but a rash of injuries, including a devastating injury to Captain Joey Lokitis ’06, derailed the team. In the ensuing games, Andover struggled offensively and lost nine out of ten games. Captain Lokitis has returned in time for the Exeter game, and the team will need play its best game of the season to snap its long losing streak to the Big Red. The Girls Basketball team has already faced its Exeter counterparts and lost 41-25. Andover, however, is a vastly improved team from that last game, especially on the offensive end. If the Andover girls can stay successful offensively, the game could have a very different result. Boys Hockey has been effectively removed from playoff contention but would love to ruin Exeter’s own playoff hopes. The Big Blue defeated Exeter earlier in the season 3-2 at Exeter and, with its home crowd behind it, sees no reason why the result will be different this time around. Girls Hockey is the only Andover team in action this weekend with playoff hopes. Currently seeded sixth in New England, the girls need another victory against the Big Red to have any chance of making the playoffs. Andover destroyed Exeter earlier in the season 4-0. Andover already has a lead with Swimming’s and Track’s victories and hopes to continue that success.
