At a School Congress this week, students and faculty discussed the sensitive issue of grade inflation and engaged in a wide-ranging conversation about the current grading system and possible changes, such as adding pluses and minuses to the current system, adding effort grades, and recording class averages on report cards. They also discussed how colleges view Phillips Academy’s grades, how those grades are viewed by students and their parents, and how there are problems with grading systems in general. Though grade inflation has recently been a hot topic of discussion on campus, some students and faculty do not feel that the Academy should make it more difficult to attain honors grades.
