JV Team of the Week: Girls Basketball

While the crazy, blue-clad fans sat in buses traveling to Exeter last Saturday, Andover Girls Junior Varsity Basketball had already arrived. The girls fought it out on the court with their Exeter rivals in a game that exemplified what type of team they have become this season. These girls are determined and ready to have a good time. Motivated by a crushing early season loss to the Big Red, the girls worked hard all year to improve their play and tweak their level of play before heading up to the wilderness of New Hampshire this past weekend. The Lady Blue surprised Exeter with an impressive 37-17 victory. The team dedicated the win to Coach Holley, who was unable to attend the game. Second-year JV player Jenn Feeny ’04 asserted, “We gave 110% and won the game for Mr. Holley.” Though absent in the final game, Coach Holley led the girls to a successful season record of 6-5. Dorothy Vorhees ’04, Hilary Papantonio ’04, and Kasey O’Laughlin ’05 powered the team’s offense all season. Jen Evans ’04 put it best, saying, “We’re a very casual team, but towards the end we were really working together.” Evans added, “There were no good or bad players, but we all played equally, and everyone contributed something to the team, on and off the floor.” That spirit led this squad to a victory over Exeter, and pushed them along throughout the season. The talented group of players Holley has cultivated on his team this season will look to be a driving force on the Andover Varsity squad in years to come.
